Dr. G. Bhaskara Maiya

Gundmi Bhaskara Maiya was born on April 17th, 1952 at Birthi, Brahmavar. He studied at primary school in Uppinakote and Government Higher Primary School (Karkada). He completed his high school education at Viveka High School (Kota) and graduated from M.G.M. College (Udupi). He is an academic author, scholar, literary translator, and exponent of literature, textual criticism, and philosophy. He has authored 52 books: 20 are in Hindi and the rest are in Kannada. His academic research ranges across four languages: Kannada, Hindi, English, and Sanskrit. He was a National Awardee in 2002, awarded by the Prime Minister of India at the time, Sri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He was married to K. Kamala from Kollur. He has three children, the elder one being his daughter Ashwini B. K (daughter), and the other two, twin boys, Prajnana Vaiswanara and Prajwala Jataveda. He is inspired by the works of Mahapandith Rahul Sankarithyayan, Shamba Joshi, Dr. Ram Vilas Sharma, K. Shivaram Karanth, and Gajanana Madhav Mukthibodh.

Bhaskara Maiya was a kannada pandith at Sri Mookambika Temple High School (Kollur) in 1971. From 1972 to 1977, he worked as a graduate assistant in Jyothi High School (Ajekar). The following 11 years, he worked as a professor of Hindi and Sanskrit at Bhandarkars' college (Kundapur). For 21 years after that, he was the HOD (Head of Department) of Hindi for the same institution and from 2010 to 2012 continued this position at Vijaya college (Mulki).

Bhandakars' college (Kundapura) and Vijaya college (Mulki) are colleges of the Academy of General Education (Manipal); they belong to Mangalore University (Mangalore).

He pursued doctorate in Hindi-language and obtained master's degree in Philosophy, Sanskrit, Prakrit and English from the Karnatak University in Dharwad. He also completed his PhD at Mysore University. He was academically fluent and had done research on Hindi, Kannada, Sanskrit and English. He had published nearly 52 books out of which 20 of them being written in Hindi while 32 of them being written in Kannada.

Maiya also served as Hindi-language professor for a long period of time, nearly two decades teaching Hindi at Bhandarkars' Arts & Science College in Kundapur. He then served as the head of Department of Hindi from 2010 to 2012. He also later taught Sanskrit to students.

He received the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002 from the then Indian Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for his book titled Ajanabeepan Ek Saiddanthik Anushilan
